Chester (big) and Ziggy (small) battle. I have no Mike Vick jokes.

New Orleans Bound
In a week, Josh Hissem and I are heading to New Orleans to work for one month as volunteers at Camp Hope III.
To prepare, I’ve been re-watching When the Levees Broke: A Requiem In Four Parts.
I remember feeling disconnected because at the time, I was still in high school my world-view was for the most part restricted to the Northeast. This will put things in perspective.
Also, HBO has another New Orleans post-Katrina project that is scheduled to debut in early April. “Treme,” created by the Wire’s David Simon, deals with New Orleans months after Katrina hits. Instead of focusing on social institutions; however, this series focuses on musicians.

I love this song, and I thought I would share it in case you have not heard it or forgot about it.

Are my posts about news stories helpful or interesting? I do not know whether or not I should continue to post links to news stories or not.

Jobless Graduates Rejoice!
With graduation around the corner (sort of) and off the parental teet, I am scared shitless of being without health insurance in this barren job market. Even if I am uninsured for a few months, that means no skateboarding, no physical activity, no breathing in enclosed, public spaces. Luckily, Obama is coming through big time. I admit that I was skeptical of his “Change” and “Hope” messages, because frankly, there is a lot on his plate, but Obama has demonstrated that he has some major balls. Fingers are crossed regarding the passing of legislation for the health care overhaul.

If you’re not satisfied with my stellar, comprehensive and all around genius description, read more about it HERE.

JFK to OAK
My flight was the last to leave the tarmac at JFK yesterday. While we were taking off, the plane rocked back and forth and a woman holding an infant began crying hysterically and whimpered, “I am going to die.”
In lighter news, I went to the beach today and saw the Clipper Ledges.
Delores Park was packed and I think it had something to do with the solstice.
Went to Berkeley for the first time.
